As many of you know our kids were born at KU Med Center here in Kansas City. They are the only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in the area. They did so much to help our children survive and continue to do the same for so many children in our area! KU Dance Marathon (KUDM) hosts several fundraising events throughout the year and the biggest one is the 12 hour dance marathon. We were invited as one of the miracle families to share the kids story this year and inspire the dancers. Their motto is “We stand because we can, for kids who can’t.”
We felt is was important to attend and share our story, little did I realize how much this event would touch my heart. The goal of the dance marathon is to raise money for KU Pediatrics and support for the children and families who have been through so much. I am sure many of you know how grateful we are for all the great care our family received before and after our children were born. We consider many of those who took care of our family as family. This is the feeling that is a common theme among the families.
This day was all about the kids and it was amazing to see all of the college students who gave their entire Saturday to love on all the kids and raise so much money for the Peds Department. I heard and read many comments of the students being inspired by the families and kids and I want to share that the feeling is mutual! I am inspired by their willingness to put these children first! These precious children who either started off fighting for their life or who are continuing to fight were given a day to have their dreams and wishes come true!
It was amazing to see how all the dancers got on the level of every child there! Our kids are already asking when they will get to go back and see all their new friends. It warmed my heart to see how happy every child was while they were there. Our children had a blast and enjoyed every minute. I could not keep track of everything that they did while they were there. The highlights were the bounce house, playing chase, ball toss, parachutes, glow sticks, and preforming on stage. Yes all four of our kiddos got up on stage and sang and danced to their Scream and Shout youtube video. Plus they answered some trivia and Zachary stole the show when he asked everyone what time it was and broke out into the Peanut Butter Jelly song. I was laughing so hard I was crying.
Here are just a few of the pictures of the day…some we took and a couple I was given permission to share. You will see a few photos of Esteban…he was our contact for the event and helped us the entire time we were there. Matthew and him were instant buddies. Matthew says he is his new best friend.
The closing video was shared on youtube…here it is! You should definitely check it out.
It really was a great experience and we can not wait for next year. Not only is it just a really good time it is a chance to share our story and hear so many other stories from those who have been touched by KU pediatrics! I know all the stories shared helped to keep the dancers motivated to keep going as well as raise even more funds! At the end of the night they had some very touching moments…when the kids cut off the dancers hospital bracelets many of the dancers were in tears. Then I was in tears when the total amount raised was revealed. It was so touching and also overwhelming to see these college students raised just over $61,500!
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this wonderful event and we hope we see you soon!
