Kansas City Zoo (Summer Bucket List)

As I am sure many of you are aware we love visiting our city zoo!  This past week we made our first trip of the summer season out to visit some of our favorite animals.  Visiting the zoo happens to be on our summer bucket list!  Our trip this time also included a couple of milestones!

The first big thing when you enter the zoo are the polar bears.  This is always a family favorite.  We took a couple of pictures with the big polar bear!mccleary_quads_zoo8

On a good day the bears will be showing off their swimming skills.  Our visit on Monday was a good day! mccleary_quads_zoo11

On they way to the next adventure the kids wanted to take their picture in the polar bear with the face cut out.  It was too darn cute!mccleary_quads_zoo18

Next we went for a ride on the carousel.  This was the first time we let the kids spread out and ride where they like.  Generally we had them ride close all within arms reach of us to ensure we could catch them.  I figured it was about time I loosened the reigns a bit and let the kids pick their animals even if they were a bit spread out.  The best part was we did not have to ride it three more times so each of the kids got to ride their favorite animal!

They used to leave upset if they did not ride the animal they wanted, not what you want to happen, but many times we all know it is bound to happen.  They left all smiles ready for the next adventure.

We made it to see a sea lion show, usually we do not time this right.  So they kids were very excited to see the tricks with hoops.  mccleary_quads_zoo28

mccleary_quads_zoo32We also watched the bird show.  It is in the IMAX theater while they construct the Penguin Plaza (we are all really excited the penguins!)  We have never attended the bird show before because we had the strollers and all the stuff in them.  I never really felt comfortable leaving all of it in the lobby.  Because of the lighting in the theater many of the photos did not come out all that great.  I did get one good one of us waiting for the show.

Next we were off to ride the train!  We love the train ride.  In the past the kids were not fond of the tunnel, but this time they talked about how dark it was and that they needed a flashlight.  mccleary_quads_zoo47

The next big milestone was that the kids walked all of Africa!  We have done maybe one trip prior to this at the zoo without our strollers, but we walked Australia, a much shorter distance.  They loved having the ability to go at their own pace and not have to crawl in and out of the stroller.  Although at times they said they were tired they walked the whole thing!
