Birthday letter from Mommy 2013

Dear Elizabeth, Cameron, Matthew and Zachary,

It is hard to believe that you are four years old!  I still remember the day you were born like it was yesterday.  Jeannie, one of my frequent nurse, came at 8:00am to check on me as she and many nurses  had for the past 2 and 1/2 months.  She told me to quit pushing.  I recall telling her that I was not pushing, I was just breathing through the pain.  The next thing I know I was in the delivery room and getting ready to meet all of you for the first time.  Daddy was rushed back to get the camera from the room and met up with the doctor while they were scrubbing up.  It was amazing how fast things went because by 8:30 Elizabeth you were out and we heard a tiny cry.  Cameron you came out just a minute later at 8:31.  The doctor had to work to get you out Matthew.  You came out at 8:33 and Zachary you followed suit at 8:34.

You were all very small and had to be rushed to the nicu.  It was actually all planned out.  The hospital staff had it planned for months.  Each of you had a NICU team waiting for you once you made your entrance.  You were the first set of quadruplets born at KU med. ( I believe you still are the only set. )  I did not get to see you right away because I had to spend some time in recovery.  They had to cut my tummy open to get all four of you out.  The doctor had to sew me back up and let me rest before I could see you.  Oh, I almost forgot to tell you daddy passed out after all four of you made your entrance.  I saw it happening and had to get a couple of nurses to help him out.  He was fine and took a few more pictures of you in your isolates.  Those were special beds that kept you warm.  Daddy made sure to show me pictures while I waited.

I remember on the way back to my room they wheeled me by each of you.  I instantly fell head over heels in love with each of you.  Here you were the four little miracles that had been growing in my belly over the past 7 months.  You were small but very mighty!  You amazed us all with how well you were doing from the start and you continue to amaze us even now.  You will always be my babies, but I know you are no longer babies.  You are growing up so fast!  Before I know it you will be starting Kindergarten and many more milestones beyond that.  You four truly are miraculous and I want you to know that I love you so much.   Happy birthday to my superheros!
