Potty Training

So last week we started hitting the potty training pretty hard.  Day one we started with a timer going off every 15 min.  If they did well and were clean and dry we stretched out the time.  The timer works very well!  When it goes off they all look around and say “potty time.”  The first day we stretched it out to 30 min.  I only upped it if they were dry and clean a couple of times.  By the end of the day each had only one or two wet diapers.

Day two went about the same but I had learned the day before to shorten the timer time after dinner.  Accidents were about the same.

This brings us to Friday.  They did well.  We had plans that night which set our schedule off.  But when we got back they were only wet a little bit.

Saturday was a wash we had an event all morning.  We spent the rest of Saturday and Sunday getting back to our potty routine.

Monday the boys were refusing to try.  Elizabeth wanted to go and stayed dry all day!  After much thought and discussion we brought back M&Ms to encourage the boys to try.  When we first wanted to try we used them to encourage them to just go through the motions.

Today the boys are doing much better.  If they try they get 1 m&m, 2 for #1, and 3 for #2.  We want it to be positive so we think they deserve one for trying.  Elizabeth has been dry up to this point today and even asking to go before the timer goes off.  We also moved the time to 45 min.

We did do undies and plastic panties 2 days last week.  When our schedule was so mixed up we went back to diapers.  We will probably continue to use diapers until they are dry for a couple of days.  Which means Elizabeth might be trying them again.  The boys will transition when they are showing the same thing.  I know there are many ways to do this…but for now this seems to be working for us.  We also may adjust our game plan at any point.  At least I think we are moving in the right direction.

Sounds like you are making great progress! I need to just find a time and do it. Good luck keeping it up!!
