Tonight at dinner it was par for course, calling our grapes balls, throwing our forks on the floor, and stuffing our faces. At the end of dinner we try to encourage some "conversations" to wind down and begin clean up. The kids favorite "topic" is to point to each family member and ask who each other is and try to say their name. Usually we hear mommy, daddy, and occasionally Elizabeth will say Zachary. For the first time ever Elizabeth said every ones name as she pointed to each person. I was floored, I have never heard her say Cameron and Matthew has been hard to distinguish. She was so proud of herself. Matthew also gave it a great shot and said Sissy and Zachary. Cameron was just excited to hear his sister say his name. Zachary was laughing and still finishing dinner.
It is amazing to hear them begin to call each other by name because it shows us they understand everyone has a name as well as they are not another toy, but another person to interact with. I know that they probably understood this to some extent before, but now they are truly grasping the fact that they are each different.
